MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

  • An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented. Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.

  • Our Charlotte Dilworth Club has initiated projects designed to improve healthy outcomes for mothers and children around the world. From convincing the Bolivian government to add fluoride to their water to providing hands-on dental assistance to villages in Peru to providing medical assistance to communities in India, we have a strong record of helping other countries.

  • In 2018, we identified a need for a stress-reduction tool for children at Levine Hospital about to undergo surgery. We purchased two remote-control automobiles for children to use in driving to surgery on the day of their operations.

  • During 2020-2021, our club supported mothers, children, and families by volunteering every other week at the Charlotte Convention Center packing food boxes for Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina during COVID.
